Here at Bryn Thomas Cranes, we provide a wide range of cranes that are designed to suit various industrial requirements. An example of one of the cranes that we have available for hire is the city crane, which makes light work of lifting operations in the city.
What are city cranes?
In cities and built up areas there is often limited space for cranes, making it difficult to lift goods safely without causing damage. This is why we supply the city crane – designed for the inner city and tight spaces, it provides a practical solution for lifting various materials.
A city crane has a short chassis, 2-axle design and independent steering. With city cranes, there is only one cab required for both transportation and operation which makes it easier for you to operate.
City crane hire allows you to lift goods with ease – preventing the risk of injury and damage. The city cranes from Bryn Thomas Cranes are ideal for small industrial operations. Choosing city crane hire will instantly boost productivity and speed up the lifting process.
How can you benefit from city cranes?
City cranes are arguably the best in the business and it’s easy to see why when they offer so many benefits.
They are the most manoeuvrable type of crane that we provide – making city crane hire the preferred choice of many people. They are compact in size and can be used when there is little headroom available. These cranes are guaranteed to fit through gates easily and can even be used within buildings which makes them ideal for construction sites.
In addition to this, they are renowned for their powerful performance. They offer exceptional lifting capabilities that enable you to complete your project sooner. So if you’re looking to save time, check out our extensive range today.

All cranes are designed to lift large cumbersome loads – but city cranes are perfect for lifting in areas where access is restricted or difficult.
Though smaller than most of the other cranes within our modern fleet, here at Bryn Thomas Cranes, city cranes are (by far) the most manoeuvrable type. And because of their compact nature and all-wheel steering, they are the go-to choice for tight city-centre locations where space is usually at a premium and streets are narrow.
Exactly as their name suggests, city cranes are used for inner-city use, however, they come in extremely useful for a range of indoor applications and can be used on difficult terrain too.
The cost of city crane hire can vary considerably depending on several factors, including:
• Where you are based – like most things, crane hire will likely cost more in the South of England than it will in the North. The good news is, we operate throughout the UK and have depots in North Wales, Manchester, Liverpool, Durham and Newcastle.
• Distance from the hire depot to the worksite – the further the crane needs to travel to reach your site, the more expensive crane hire will be. That’s why, if you want to keep your expenses to a minimum, it pays to use a local crane hire company.
• How much crane hire experience you have – if you have a qualified team at your disposal and experience in abundance, we highly recommend you opt for Construction Plant Hire Association (CPA) crane hire. Whereas, if you’ve never hired a crane before, or don’t have a safety team for the lifting operation, it’s worth arranging a contract lift. Although this will cost you more upfront, every aspect will be taken care of on your behalf – including the preparation of method statements, risk assessments and insurance.
• How long you need to hire the crane for – as you’d expect, the longer you need to hire a crane, the more it will cost. Most crane hire providers specify a minimum hire period of 4 hours in their contracts. After this, an hourly rate applies. With that said, it makes sense to carefully plan your project and think realistically about the scale of the job and how long you will require the equipment.
At BTC, we provide the best city cranes at some of the most affordable rates around. So, why not get in touch with our team to discuss your needs in more detail? We will be more than happy to offer a free, no-obligation quote for city crane hire near you.
Here at BTC, we appreciate that hiring a city crane (or any other crane for that matter) for the first time can be daunting. After all, there is so much to think about and organise. But if this is new territory for you, don’t panic. Our team has unrivalled knowledge and experience in this field and can guide and advise you every step of the way.
As a general rule of thumb, if you have little to no experience in hiring cranes, you will need to arrange a contract lift. With this, our experts will provide a city crane, along with a qualified appointed person to oversee the lift, an operator, supervisors, signallers, slinger and the necessary insurance cover.
