CASE STUDY - Major Energy Company – Nineteen 160 tonne turbines for Wind Farm
When a reputable wind turbine energy organisation needed to replace and update their turbine fleet due to rejuvenation, we at Bryn Thomas Cranes Ltd were called into action. Our crane hire UK services allowed us to travel to Dumfries, Scotland for a week-long project in January 2019 that consisted of our crane operatives and the energy company's senior team working closely to ensure everything went off without a problem.
The customer company was in need of a reliable crane hire company to help in lifting and replacing 14 wind turbines carefully and professionally at their wind farm in Dumfries. The customer got in touch and we quickly settled on a CPA contract lift - this crane hire service allowed easier planning on both parts as our specialist crane operators and signallers could help in making sure the lifting of each turbine ran smoothly.
The current 14 turbines help in generating up to 18 megawatts of clean energy for the UK – the company’s desire was to update and one day expand with improved turbines to carry through to the next decade.
Our crane specialists secured a laid out plan to ensure health and safety when our cranes were in operation. With the entirety of each wind turbine weighing an estimated 160 tonnes, the lift consisted of us using our 300t Grove GMK 6300-L and 500t Liebherr LTM 1500.8.1 - the strongest and biggest cranes in our fleet.
With careful planning from ourselves and cooperation from all parties involved in the project, we were able to make sure every aspect of the lift ran smoothly without any difficulties. Communication and focus were key, with all who were involved being dedicated to both.
The project leader noted our team at Bryn Thomas Cranes for their "quick and efficient service" and their "top quality" skills as crane operators.
We are currently negotiating for our crane hire UK services to be of use to this energy company soon - hopefully leading to assisting in their lifting projects in England or Wales and their yet-to-be-dated expansion at their Dumfries wind farm.

Arriving on site promptly we made sure the job was professionally planned and executed - working alongside the senior manufacturing team from start to finish, to ensure everything ran smoothly.
The LTM 1040 was operated by our crane specialists who made sure health and safety standards were never compromised.
Thanks to the exceptional service they received, the company have said that Bryn Thomas Cranes will be their first choice for work in the future.
